Alumni Professional Development
One of the guiding pillars of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Alumni Network is to foster a strong and connected alumni community who support each other with career growth and professional development. Our mentoring program offers six-month cohorts for in-depth 1:1 connection, and our programs and events are available virtually for exploration on career topics and skills.

Mentorship Program
The Alumni Support Mentorship Initiative is a program designed for DOE Alumni seeking guidance for career challenges and professional growth. It connects alumni in supportive mentoring relationships that offer space for reflection, advice, and shared experience.
A mentor role provides professional guidance, shares career insights, offers networking advice, and serves as a sounding board for career challenges. It is not a technical training or supervisory role. A mentee is an active participant in the mentorship relationship who takes ownership of their learning and growth. The mentee is responsible for setting goals, preparing for conversations, and applying insights gained through mentorship. Mentorship is not passive guidance; it is a collaborative relationship in which the mentee drives the agenda and progress.
Our first cohort of the mentorship program launched in April 2026, with 78 participants matched in mentor/mentee relationships for a six-month period beginning in May 2026. Mentees were able to select their mentors and set their program goals, which include a monthly hour-long call and weekly check-ins on goal progress and ongoing support.
Are you interested in participating in our next cohort, which will take place in early 2027? Email annemarie.horowitz@doealumni.org to sign up.
Job Placement
Our incredibly talented alumni have a wealth of energy and security experience, and you can help them find their next opportunity for their career by sharing open job positions to the Network. We include job listings in our weekly Network emails, and can also provide recruitment searches through our Network members for priority placements to support our Alumni or state and local government hiring.
