The U.S. Department of Energy Alumni Network seeks to foster a collaborative community that champions a transformational science and technology agenda for the United States by facilitating non-partisan policy engagement, preserving and sharing institutional knowledge, and supporting career development and networking opportunities for its members. The Network, which is housed within the Environmental Protection Network, seeks to:

  • Foster an Alumni Community: Grow a strong and connected alumni community, foster career growth and professional development, and maximize the impact of the community.  

  • Support DOE’s Mission Space:  Support priorities, programs, and people within the DOE mission space and provide guidance on DOE capabilities, rules, and processes to affiliated stakeholders.

    This DOE Funding Analysis Program Lead (Part-time/Contractor) will work closely with the DOE Alumni Network’s Executive Director, Policy Strategy Lead, and Future of DOE Initiative Lead to track and analyze U.S. Department of Energy spending, appropriations, and authorizations and assist the Network in its efforts to identify innovation funding needs and gaps.  This consultant will work closely with Network’s Policy Strategy Lead, the Future of DOE Initiative Lead, and other members of the Network’s policy team. This is a position for a person with deep understanding of DOE appropriations, a strong analytic skillset, and experience leading groups to identify innovation and funding priorities.  

    Note: Applicants must have worked at the U.S. Department of Energy (either fellow, contractor, or federal employee) for at least two years and have at least two years of experience engaging with federal appropriations policy and funding implementation.     Reporting to the DOE Alumni Network Executive Director, and working closely with the Network’s Policy Strategy Lead, the Future of DOE Initiative Lead will lead the Network’s multi-year Envisioning the Future of DOE effort. This is a position for a person with experience with a deep background in energy policy, a keen understanding of energy innovation needs, experience developing and publishing large strategic analyses, and extensive experience leading multi-stakeholder processes.  

    About the Envisioning the Future of DOE Initiative

    The Envisioning the Future of DOE initiative is an effort to establish a non-partisan research and policy agenda for the Department to enable it to be more effective at achieving its mission.  The initiative will work to develop a comprehensive set of development of R&D and policy recommendations; identification of operational improvements and associated implementation strategies; and hiring/personnel strategies and policy recommendations. 

    Note: Applicants must have worked at the U.S. Department of Energy (either fellow, contractor, or federal employee) for at least two years with a preference of seven or more years of experience working on issues relating to domestic energy policy and energy innovation needs.     The Professional Development & Mentorship Consultant (Part-time/Contractor) will facilitate professional development activities and the mentorship program for the Network. This work is undertaken in concert with the members and leadership of the Alumni Support Working Group.  

    Reporting to the DOE Alumni Network Community Lead, this role will support professional development resources, events, and programs that align with the needs and interest of the members of the Network.

    Note: Applicants must have worked at the U.S. Department of Energy (either fellow, contractor, or federal employee) for at least two years with additional experience preferred, and have five or more years of combined experience with professional development content, and building and managing communities and volunteers.
