Nicole Ryan is the Funding Analysis Lead for the U.S. Department of Energy Alumni Network. Previously, Nicole served on the Technology Policy Team in the Department's Office of Policy. In this role she had the opportunity to provide technical assistance to the U.S. Treasury Department on clean energy tax credit regulations and guide research and analysis on the U.S. electricity and industrial sectors, translating complex technical findings into concise policy briefs. She originally joined the Department in 2021 as an AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellow. Prior to that, Nicole served as an IEEE-USA Congressional Science & Engineering Fellow for U.S. Congressman Paul Tonko, with previous experience in power plant engineering and consulting.

Nicole holds a doctorate in Mechanical Engineering and Resource Policy & Behavior from the University of Michigan. During her doctoral education Nicole served as a graduate intern for the National Renewable Energy Laboratory where she analyzed and modeled the U.S. electricity system. Nicole is based in D.C. and in her free time loves to throw pottery, practice yoga, and explore the outdoors.
